Sloth Painting

Description:
A watercolor painting of a sloth, completed on 12.27.18.
Reflection:
This painting was a Christmas gift for an old friend. Her favorite animal is a sloth, so I painted one. At the time, I’d started working with watercolor, so I wanted to use that medium for her gift. I had to spend extra time on this due to being inexperienced with the medium. I was not able to get the level of detail I wanted with just watercolor, so I used colored pencils for that.
Going from grayscale to color made it difficult to maintain the upward trajectory I had with contrast. There are large areas of this painting that look flat. I think it is obvious that this is one of my first realistic watercolor paintings.
Time Spent:
10-12 hours
Materials:
Watercolor, colored pencils, and pen.
